Frequently Asked Questions:

What are the age requirements to participate in the Moorpark Striders?  The Moorpark Striders Youth Track Team is open to all children, first through eight grades.

What should an athlete bring to practice?  WATER!  Athletes should wear running shorts, suitable top, socks and "running" shoes. Boys should wear an athletic supporter/jockey type underwear.  Girls should wear a sports bra.  Sweats or a jacket/long pants are highly recommended for all practices and meets.  Please mark all clothing with your childs name.

What is the "Iron Strider" award?  This Moorpark Striders award can be acheived if an athlete successfully completes all track and field events within his/her age division.  All events must be completed during regular season meets, (events completed in varsity/varsity meets do not apply to Iron Strider requirements).

How many events can an athlete complete in during a track meet?  Each athlete may compete in a maximum of four (4) events in each regular season meet.  Additionally, of the four, only three (3) can be running events.  (Exception: The 4 x 400 Relay may be an athlete's 5th event or 4th running event during the regular season).

What are the minimum standards required to compete in the Varsity meet held at the end of each season?  The VCYTC sets varsity standards for all events in each age division.  A varsity event standard must be acheived during the regular season in order to quailfy/particiapte in that event during the Varsity meet.   Please see the VCYTC Website for varisty standards, (see Links section).

Can athletes wear "spikes"?  Only athletes in the Midget, Youth, and Intermediate age divisions are permitted to wear spiked track shoes during track meets.  Gremlins and Bantams may wear racing flats in place of spikes.  Moorpark H.S. requests athletes only use 3/16th inch "needle" spikes. Contact your coach for additional information on spiked track shoes and spike type/length guidelines.

Are there post season track meets?  Yes!  Although the Moorpark Striders do not conduct any post season meets, there are several opportunities for athletes to particiapte in additional meets including qualifying meets that lead to the USATF Junior Olympics and the AAU Junior Olympics, (see Links section).

How do I schedule my volunteer support shifts?  Generally, volunteer support shifts can be selected during the registration and sign-up times.  Questions regarding volunter support shifts can be directed to the Moorpark Striders Volunteer coordinator noted on the Volunteers tab.  The Moorpark Striders organization and it's athletes greatly appreciate your volunteer support!

Do the Moorpark Striders keep a listing of Team Records by divisions?  Yes. Generally, Moorpark Strider athletes who set the 5 all-time records in each event per sex/age division (Exception: Only the top relay teams are published) are tracked and published in the annual Moorpark Striders hand guide that is distributed at the beginning of each season.
